Private, 8 Infantry, died of wounds, 30 August, 1915, Gallipoli, aged 25, commemorated Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli.
Mother: Mrs S HOOPER (previously WESTWOOD), born South Melbourne. Shown as a 23-year-old labourer when he enlisted with his mother shown c/o Albion Hotel, Port Melbourne, later adjusted to a sister, Mrs Muriel WRIGHT at Longwood, via Bendigo (with receipts witnessed by a Bessie Hooper). No circular returned; he died from a fractured skull and of wounds to the face and thigh on board the Hospital Ship Gloucester Castle while being transported back to Egypt, buried at sea. Three probable relatives linked to or born in Albert Park also enlisted: 722, Joseph Lawrence WESTWOOD, father Alfred in Boyd Street, 1047, William WESTWOOD, wife Amy in Elsternwick.; and 5433, John WESTWOOD, wife Margaret in Richardson Street, Albert Park, died in the Base Hospital, St Kilda Road and on the South Melbourne Roll.
