Biography - Killick Family

Killick, George Lawson

George was born 1867 in St Kilda. He married Florence Cross (born 1872 in Port Melbourne) in 1897 in Port Melbourne.

They had two children:

Dora Ruby was born in Port Melbourne in 1898.
On 21 June 1922 at Holy Trinity, she married Thomas James Brown Biography who also came from Port. At that time her occupation was housemaid.

George William Lawson Killick born in Port Melbourne 1900 and baptised at Holy Trinity on 11th April 1900.

Florence died in 1948.

George used to deliver meat to my mother, Florence Stuart. (Glen Stuart.)

For thirty-eight years he had the butcher's shop in Ross Street, one property down from the corner of Bridge Street. When he retired he moved round the corner to 257 Bridge Street and lived there for another nineteen years.

The three, two story, brick shops, 201, 203 & 205 Ross Street Property, were built in either 1895 or 1896 and first owned by Fogarty, Daley and Company. George Killick operated the butcher's shop at 203. In 1920 he bought the entire property from Fogarty and Daley. He continued to own the building until at least 1960.
