Biography - Lock Family
Lock, John Julius
138 Farrell Street 1905-1941 
He was born in Sandridge on 9th August 1874. On 23 September 1896 he married Emily Libbis, who was born in Sandridge on 27th October 1875.
They had eight children, seven of whom survived childhood:
Annie Beatrice born 24th August 1897 in Ross Street and died 13th July 1988. she married Victor Harold Perrott
John Alfred born 13th August 1902 in Port Melbourne
Alice Myrtle born 4th June 1905 in Port Melbourne. she married James Kelvin Law
Emily Margaret born 23 May 1908 at 138 Farrell Street
May Lock born 28th April 1910 at 138 Farrell Street and died there the same day.
Gladys Hilda born 26th June 1912 who married John Nye
Ivy Elizabeth born 19th April 1915
Frederick William born 6th August 1917. (see 130 Farrell Street 1941-1952)
For many years John Lock rented the property, which was in some way entailed after the death of Thomas Hudson, though his heirs the Thorntons are given as the owners in the rate records. Only when it was released in the 1940s could John purchase the property he had cared for over so many years.
John Lock died in Port Melbourne 5th December 1941

After her mother died, Emily inherited the house and continued to live there until her death in September, 2005, aged 97.
Emily was guest speaker at a PMH&PS meetings in 2002 and at the end of the meeting joined the Society and with her positive attitude, paid for 4 years membership in advance!
Emily had an amazing memory and assisted this project with the enthusiasium she lived her life. She made an invaluable contribution to the "History of a Street Precinct" project and we say thank you Emily for allowing us to record some of your memories.

He was one of the sons of John Julius , born 6 August 1917 and died 1953. Fred married Hazel Jean Cosham in 1939. He died in Port Melbourne 24th December 1952 .
They had two children:
Anthony Thomas born 13th June 1940 in Port Melbourne
Terri Michelle born 21 May 1945. Terri married Maurice Atkinson on 6th November 1965.
