Biography - Murray Family

Murray, John
14 or 16 Derham Street 1890-1916 Property

The best information is from Val Power as they were her great-grandparents. Her records show that the numbering in Derham Street given in Sands & McDougal is very questionable.

John Murray, who was born in London about 1824, emmigrated first to the United States and then on to Australia.

Eliza McIntosh was born in Inverness, Scotland about 1842 and arrived in Port Phillip on the ship “Blanche” in 1852. John and Eliza were married in Ballarat in 1863. John worked for the railways as a gatekeeper at the time that he lived in Port Melbourne. John died in 1916 and Eliza in 1919. Their funerals left from their residence at 14 Derham Street Port Melbourne.

Eliza Murray
14 or 16 Derham street 1917-1919 Property

Wife of John. After his death she lived in the house. Like her husband, her funeral notice indicates that she died there and was buried from the house.
