Parents: George Robert ALFORD and Agnes Frances ALFORD. Ernest was born in Richmond. He enlisted as a 19-year-old cordial factor worker with his father at 8 Little Cruikshank Street. He returned with chronic bronchitis in July, 1918 and died from tuberculosis, 11 July, 1924 at Caulfield Military Hospital. The ADFA summary incorrectly shows him killed in action 20 September, 1917. Two brothers, four sisters.

A Funeral Notice shows he was interred in Brighton Cemetery; the family were then in Phoenix-street, South Yarra. Parents George Robert died 64 years of age in Caulfield (possibly also the Repatriation Hospital) on 22 September, 1932 and also interred in Brighton Cemetery, Agnes in Melbourne in 1953 at 77 years; burial also at Brighton Cemetery following a Requiem Mass celebrated at the Sacred Heart
