A Death Notice placed by his parents and appearing 29 April, 1918 reveals his true name as STANLEY PHILLIP BROOKES. Victorian BDM has him born in 1899 and thus probably only 16 when he enlisted in March, 1916, all in probability the reason for him using a brother’s name.
BROOKES — Killed in action 5th April. Stanley Phillip, dearly loved son of George and Sarah Brookes. 20 Nott-street. Port Melbourne, loving brother of Lillian, George (on active service), Willie, Nellie, Alma, Norman and Leslie, also the loved grandson of Mrs. L. Bunsell. Western Australia.
