Major, 22 Infantry, died of wounds, 20 September, 1915, Gallipoli, aged 37, commemorated Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli.

Brother: Theodore Clarence DERRICK (parents deceased), born Richmond, educated Elsternwick SS. He enlisted with an address given as the Town Pier, Port Melbourne, shown as a food analyst, with a brother in Hawthorn as next of kin. He was the Area Commander for the Port Melbourne Defence Area before joining the AIF. Circular returned by a brother in Hawthorn nominating Brighton as place of association, but with a Mr RYALL, “editor, newspaper, Port Melbourne” as an additional reference. Noted he had 16 years’ service with the civilian volunteer forces, also a member of the Port Melbourne Swimming Club.

Captain Derrick joined the military in 1899 working his way through the ranks achieving the rank of Captain in 1910. He was appointed area officer to Port Melbourne in 1911.
