“I knew Douglas, he was in A Coy. I was told by L/Cpl Hynes, A.IV, that he was with Douglas near Messines when he was killed, shot by a sniper. It was during an attack and I believe it was some days before the 7th June. Hynes was with the Battn two days ago and could not doubt give further details. Douglas was a very popular man”.
