“He was in C.Co., 31 Pltn. I knew him very well, he came from Gippsland, Victoria. On the 20th September we were digging in at Polygon Wood. I was in the next bay to Fixter. A shell dropped in the bay; after the explosion T went into the bay – I saw Fixter and others in the bay lying dead, killed by concussion. We were relieved the next night – the bodies were left at the back of the trench” (Pte A.R.Dandy, 6736, 5th A.I.F)
