    Victorian BDM has him born 1899 and thus considerably under-age on both enlistments. He worked his age in the opposite direction when he volunteered for
    Second World War service :

    Born 16 March, 1902 (Ascot Vale), enlisted 24 June, 1940, served VX26259 , Private, Officers Cadet Reinforcements Reception Depot, locality on enlistment Ringwood East, Attested Caulfield, NOK Nellie HARMAN. Discharged 23 September, 1940
