Lightfoot served as 31563, Trooper, 2nd Scottish Horse in South Africa during the Boer War. Few details are listed for this unit, but the family appear to have been in Farrell street. Parents : George and Louisa, nee Harris)

More details are known of his brother, Thomas Austin Lightfoot also served in South Africa, 1540, Shoeing Smith with 5 Victorian Mounted Rifles. Born 17 January, 1880, a stockrider from 141 Farrell-street, Port Melbourne, next of kin his widowed mother at Toora, South Gippsland. On 1903 Electoral Rolls, he was listed as a dairyman at 97 Ross Street with Louisa at the same address. Noted as a financial member of the South African Soldier’s Association, 1958 when in Boronia. Born at Sago Hill (no longer exists, believed about 10-15km west of Ballarat), died in Ferntree Gully, 1965 at 85 years.
