He was noted on Attestation as previously rejected for enlistment on account of teeth. Posted Missing, 19 July, 1916, confirmed killed in action as at that date in August, 1917, no known grave. Brother, 929, Alexander Edmund McKENZIE also enlisted from Rouse Street.

Victorian registrations show the serviceman as James Reece Greville McKENZIE. The following Death Notice suggests a third brother “Willie” (William Henry McKENZIE, born South Melbourne, 1899) serving with the Royal Navy.
