    He he claimed on WW1 Attestation to have served two years during the South African War without further details, also seven weeks during the Matabelle Rebellion, the latter suggesting he may have been in South Africa when war broke out in October,1899. Of the two men of this name listed in the OzBoerWar data-base, one was from New South Wales, of the other died of accidental injuries while returning to Australia in 1902.
