Private, 5 Infantry, killed in action 3 April, 1917, France, aged 24, commemorated Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France.
Parents: Peter (late) and Mrs A Elizabeth RIALLAND; wife: Mrs Grace RIALLAND, born Port Melbourne. Rialland enlisted as 23-year-old mattress maker with his mother in Flemington Road, North Melbourne. No known grave (an eyewitness suggested he was shot through the head at night by a sniper, but his body could not be located the following morning), no circular returned, but a Death Notice reveals a baby daughter, Jean. Two brothers, Albert RIALLAND, 1899, enlisted showing his mother in Albion Street, Brunswick, also born Port Melbourne, and James Peter RIALLAND, 197, born Brunswick.
