Trooper, 1 Australian Light Horse Regiment, killed in action 7 August, 1915, aged 31, Gallipoli, commemorated Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli

11/660 (Parents : Thomas and Mrs Martha ROBERTSON? (nee FURLONG), wife Lilian Beatrice ROBERTSON (nee STICKLAND), born South Yarra, educated? He enlisted as a 30-year-old constable at Port Melbourne Police Station, noted on Attestation as having served with the South Africa Light Horse during the Boer War and with his wife in Garden Street, South Yarra. No known grave, no circular returned, but receipts on distribution of medals in 1923 show his widow as Mrs Lilian PYE, having married James PYE in 1918. William and Lilian married 1907, there does not appear to have been children of the marriage, but pension records show a payment to Stanley Robert and Percival Charles O’NEILL, noted as adopted sons. Port Melbourne Standard 22 August, 1914 suggest Constable Arthur Wright from the station enlisted at the same time, his next of kin shown in Apollo Bay
