A 22-year-old labourer who enlisted Coote Street, South Melbourne with his re-married mother in Kerr Street, South Melbourne, later 122 Ingles Street, Port Melbourne. No known grave; no circular returned; South Melbourne defaulted by AWM as the late serviceman’s closest place of association based on his address on enlistment.

“Informant states that on August 4th, 1916 at Pozieres Pte. R.H. Skinner and Pte. Cyril Iles were killed in a dugout by the same shell. He did not exactly see it happen but was close by and was told of it directly. All the company were there at the time and they all knew it and informant greatly wonders wht it was not reported and surprised to see the name on the “Missing” List. He and Pte. Iles were buried together at Pozieres. Both were great friends of informant and belonged to the original battalion.
