“I knew casualty, he was a tall man, about 5ft 9′, slightly built, medium complexion, about 22 years of age. known as Jack. Casualty was advancing on the Hindenburg Outpost Line, I was in the same advance. Casualty was a stretcher-bearer and was going to H.F. Skidmore of 14th Battn’s, assistance when he was hit by the same bullet that killed Skidmore, on the left breast, killing him instantly. I was ten yards away at the time and saw his body lying out on the open ground. He was buried between Big Bill and Little Bill, I helped to bury him. A cross was erected over his grave with his name, number and unit on it” (M. Millson, 6553)
