“Private ROBERT S. S, TAYLOR, son of Mrs. M. Taylor, of Swallow-street, Port Melbourne, enlisted on the 14th of July, 1915, and embarked with the 3rd Reinforcements to the 21st Battalion on the transport Anchises on the 26th of August. He disembarked at Egypt, and joined his unit on Gallipoli on the 12th of October. On the 24th of the same month, he was evacuated to hospital, sick, and was invalided to Egypt. He rejoined his unit in Egypt on the 4th of January, 1916. He was again evacuated to hospital, sick (trench feet), on the 28th of December, and invalided to England. He rejoined his unit again on the 24th of November, 1917. On the 5th of October, 1918, he was wounded in action and invalided to England. He returned to Australia on the transport Kashmir on the 30th of April, 1919, and was discharged on the 22nd of June. Prior to enlisting, he was teaching at School No. 1427, Port Melbourne” (Education Department Record of War Service)
