Private, 23 Infantry, killed in action 28 March, 1918, Belgium, aged 26, commemorated Berks Cemetery Extension, Wallonie, Belgium.

Parents: John George and Marion TILLEY, born Port Melbourne, educated Albert Park SS, family then at 29 Raglan Street, Port Melbourne (inter alia). A 22-year-old factory hand, he enlisted from Marshall Street, Ivanhoe, the suburb also shown as his principal place of association. Brother, 9678, Roderick Edward TILLEY also born Port Melbourne enlisted from the same address, one other brother, one sister.

    On Active Service. TILLEY – Killed in action somewhere in France, on the 28th March, 1918, No. 3265, Pte. W H. Tilley, 23rd Battalion, after 2 yrs. and 4 months active service; beloved eldest son of George and Marion Tilley, 52 Marshall-street, Ivanhoe, loving brother of Ada, Rhoderick (on active service) and George. ‘Aged 25 years 7 months. Died for King and Country.
    Inserted by his sorrowing parents, sister and brothers.

    BEREAVEMENT MR. and MRS. TILLEY and Family desire to thank their many kind friends, Rev. R. Hamilton, Vestry and Congregation of St. James, Ivanhoe, and Soldiers’ Welfare League, Ivanhoe, in their sad bereavement in the loss of our dear Son and Brother, killed in action in France.– 52 Marshall-street, Ivanhoe.
