“Arty” Treglown was a well-known player (rover) with the Port Melbourne Football Club, noted as resigning the captaincy prior to the 1914 season, although he continued through the year as a player.

“Re Pte. A.A. Treglown, 5420, and Pte. E.P. Turner, 5423, both of the 22 Battn. who were both killed in action the morning of the 3.5.17. I am very sorry I can’t assist you much in your enquiries. I knew both men very well and I was in the same stunt as they were killed in. I am quite sure both men were buried on the field where they were killed, because in a big stunt like that it is impossible to get a man’s body back to a proper cemetery and bury him there. A man killed on the field like that in a charge is buried almost straight away and a cross put over his grave … I may further state that Treglown was at the time he was killed, a Coy. runner and Pte. Turner a machine gunner. They were two of the the best men in the company “A” (J.J. Ryan, 5059, A. Coy., 22nd Battn)

      Thanks Serryn,
Is there any information about your Great Great Grandfather you would like to add to his page? It doesn’t have to be about his war service. Do you have any pictures?
You can send anything you would like added to me at pmhps@pmhps.org.au.

Artie Treglown was my Great Great Uncle. His sister was my Great Grandmother. I am honouring his sacrifice by riding my bicycle from London to Villers-Bretonneux from 3-10 November 2018 to be at the centenary commemoration of the WW1 Armistice on 11 November. I will place a poppy at the memorial on behalf of all family members. He will never be forgotten. https://100yearsofanzacs.everydayhero.com/au/jack-frost-tour-de-legacy-2018

That sounds like an amazing thing to do Jeff and an outstanding way to honour his sacrifice.
