Answering the Call

For many years Lieutenant Commander Mackenzie Gregory RAN (RTD) had a vision of a statue on the Port Melbourne foreshore to honour the service of all Naval men and women.  On 27 November 2015 that vision came to fruition in the form of a sculpture called Answering the Call by Louis Laumen.  Unveiled by Vice Admiral Tim Barrett AO CSC RAN, Chief of Navy and Patron of the Naval Heritage Foundation of Australia Inc it depicts a sailor in naval uniform holding his kitbag and signalling towards the Port Melbourne piers.
