AGM Monday 26 August, 2019 at 7.00pm for 7.30pm

Robin Grow, PMHPS Member and President of the Art Deco and Modernism Society of Australia will be the guest speaker at our Annual General Meeting this year.

Robin’s presentation will provide an illustrated analysis of how Melbourne and Port Melbourne changed in the Art Deco era – between the wars. It provides details of the changes to design aesthetics, architectural styling, land uses, new technology, new materials and how design supported the consumer society. It also illustrates the relationships between societal change and the expansion of the motor car, the widespread take-up of electricity, the obsession with speed, the passion for cinema, the post-Depression revival of retail shopping, and the obsession with sport.

Robin is the long-term President of the Art Deco & Modernism Society of Australia, author of the award-winning Melbourne Art Deco (2009), preservation advocate and historian.  He has researched and written extensively on the interwar and postwar eras and has presented papers at local, national and international conferences, including World Congresses on Art Deco. He is currently the Vice-President of the International Coalition of Art Deco Societies (ICADS).

Please Note: We have a change of venue this year due to the unavailability of the auditorium at the Town Hall.
