“Hammerberg was a mate of mine and came from Williamstown, Australia. He came over with the 6th Reinforcements and was in B Coy. I made enquiries about him when he was reported missing, and heard from some men, whose names I cannot remember, that he was working at some tunnelling on 11th April near Flers when he was killed by a shell” (Cpl.
