In March 1991 Brian recorded many views of Centenary Bridge just as preparations were being made to demolish it.

Centenary Bridge from the beach opposite Princes Street.  The pylon in the foreground is the only piece of the bridge that remains.  In the background we can see the ‘third leg’ of the bridge that allowed cars and trucks direct access to Station Pier.

I grew up in Swallow Street in the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. It was sad to see the bridge removed.

Thanks Sid. Yes it was sad to see it go. Built in 1934 as a grand entrance to the state for the Centenary celebrations it deserved a better fate than demolition.
